Sapience Chair, Copper Leaf Edition

Two chairs, one form, opposite readings

The Sapience Chair is built from folded planes, and this edition runs that structure two ways. On the first chair the side panels are solid and covered in copper leaf, so it reads as a filled volume that catches and throws light around the room. On the second, the same frame is there but the panels are gone, and what you see is the outline with the room showing through it. Stand them together and the pair reads as one object beside its own negative. The copper leaf goes on by hand, sheet by sheet, over walnut, and it will keep shifting in tone as it ages. Built in our Brooklyn workshop under the creative direction of Nersi Nasseri.

As a pair, or one at a time

The two chairs are designed to be shown together, where the contrast between solid and open is the whole point, and that is how we recommend they are placed. They also stand alone. A single copper-leafed Sapience works as a sculptural object in an entry or a corner, and the open-frame version does the same job with a much lighter visual footprint. Both are built to order in our Brooklyn workshop.
