Custom Banquettes

SENTIENT designs and builds custom banquette seating for restaurants, hotels, lobbies, and residential spaces. From straight wall banquettes to curved island configurations with integrated storage, every piece is built to your floor plan with commercial-grade durability. Here are answers to the most common questions about our custom banquette seating.

What types of banquettes does SENTIENT build?

SENTIENT builds straight wall banquettes, L-shaped corner banquettes, curved and radius configurations, modular banquettes, island or freestanding banquettes, and storage-integrated banquettes. We work from your floor plan to design a configuration that maximizes seating capacity while fitting your spatial constraints. Banquettes can be fully upholstered, partially upholstered with wood frame accents, or wood-back with upholstered seat pads. Built-in and freestanding options are available depending on the installation context. See our banquette seating page.

What materials are used for SENTIENT banquette frames?

SENTIENT banquette frames are built from kiln-dried American hardwoods, primarily walnut, maple, oak, and ash sourced from Pennsylvania mills. Solid wood construction provides the structural integrity necessary for commercial environments where banquettes experience continuous daily use. The frame is engineered to support premium foam cushioning and upholstery without flex or joint separation over time. Wood frame surfaces can be fully upholstered, left exposed as a design feature, or finished to match other furniture in the space.

What upholstery options are available for custom banquettes?

SENTIENT offers an extensive range of upholstery options for banquette seating: leather, velvet, linen, cotton, wool, chenille, vinyl, outdoor-rated fabrics, and commercial-grade performance textiles. We carry a curated selection of premium fabrics and leathers in our studio, and we also accept COM (Customer’s Own Material) and COL (Customer’s Own Leather) for clients and designers who prefer to source independently. Foam densities are customized for seat and back comfort. See our Custom Upholstery FAQ for full details.

Can SENTIENT build curved banquette configurations?

Yes. SENTIENT builds curved banquettes using steam bending and precision CNC cutting to achieve smooth radius curves. Curved configurations require careful floor plan analysis to ensure the geometry fits correctly and the upholstery follows the curve without bunching or pulling. We review architectural drawings or conduct on-site measurements before finalizing curved designs. Curved banquettes are popular for round booths, island configurations, bar surrounds, and lobby seating areas that call for organic forms rather than straight lines.

Does SENTIENT build banquettes with integrated storage?

Yes. Storage-integrated banquettes are a popular option for restaurants and residential dining rooms where space is limited. SENTIENT incorporates hinged seat lids, drawers, or removable panels into the banquette base to create accessible storage while maintaining a clean exterior appearance. The storage structure is built from solid wood with the same quality standards as the visible frame. Storage dimensions and configurations are customized to your specific needs. This is particularly useful for restaurant operators storing linens, tableware, or service items close to the dining floor.

What is the difference between a banquette and a dining bench?

A banquette is fixed seating typically built against a wall or as an island unit, with an upholstered back and seat. It creates a defined seating zone in the dining room. A dining bench is a movable seat without a back, used on one side of a dining table and stored easily when not in use. Banquettes maximize seating density per square foot, create acoustic separation between tables, and give a defined, designed quality to a dining room. Benches offer flexibility but lack the structure and spatial definition of a banquette. For commercial restaurant applications, banquettes almost always outperform benches for daily use and spatial efficiency.

Does SENTIENT accept COM and COL for banquette upholstery?

Yes. SENTIENT accepts COM (Customer’s Own Material) and COL (Customer’s Own Leather) for all upholstered pieces, including banquettes. If you are working with a specific fabric or leather sourced by your designer or procurement team, you can provide it to us and we will build the banquette using your material. We will advise on yardage requirements based on your configuration and pattern repeat. Please share the material specifications with us before ordering so we can confirm suitability for the intended application.

Are fire-retardant fabric options available for commercial banquettes?

Yes. SENTIENT offers fire-retardant fabric options for commercial banquette seating to meet local building codes for restaurants, hotels, and other public assembly spaces. We also offer anti-microbial and anti-fungal fabric treatments suitable for food service environments. If your project is subject to specific fire safety or health code requirements, let us know during the consultation and we will source materials that meet your compliance needs.

How does the measurement and installation process work for custom banquettes?

SENTIENT conducts on-site measurement for all custom banquette projects before finalizing designs. Our team reviews your floor plan, identifies wall conditions, utility locations, and any architectural features that affect the configuration. Production begins only after measurements are confirmed. Installation is handled by our team of technicians, who coordinate with your construction or renovation schedule. We deliver nationally and have installed banquettes for restaurant and hotel projects across the United States. Contact us to begin your project.

What is the lead time for custom banquettes?

Custom banquette seating at SENTIENT typically takes 10 to 12 weeks from design approval to delivery and installation. This is slightly shorter than the standard 12 to 14 week timeline for freestanding furniture because banquette designs are finalized after on-site measurement. If your restaurant or hotel project has a specific opening date, share it at the start of consultation so we can build a production schedule that works with your timeline. For large multi-zone seating programs, lead time will depend on the overall scope.
