Custom Design Options

Every piece SENTIENT builds starts with your vision. We design and fabricate to your exact specifications, whether that’s a dining table sized for your room, a finish matched to your interior, or a completely original form. Here’s how customization works. Visit our custom furniture page for a full overview of our capabilities.

Can I fully customize dimensions, wood species, and finish?

Yes. Every piece SENTIENT builds is made to order. You choose the dimensions, wood species, finish, base style, and any special details. There are no fixed sizes or limited options. If you need a dining table that’s 114 inches long in white oak with a ceruse finish on a blackened steel base, we’ll build it. Customization is not an upgrade at SENTIENT. It’s how we work. Explore our custom capabilities.

Does SENTIENT work from client sketches or inspiration images?

Absolutely. SENTIENT regularly works from client sketches, mood boards, magazine tearsheets, and reference photos. Our design team translates your ideas into detailed 3D renderings, refining proportions, materials, and details until the design is right. You don’t need to arrive with a finished concept. A rough idea, a photo of something you like, or even a description of how you want the piece to feel is enough for us to start.

What design styles does SENTIENT specialize in?

SENTIENT’s design range spans modern, contemporary, mid-century, rustic, and sculptural styles. Our collection includes pieces that won Best Furniture at ICFF, live edge work that celebrates natural forms, and clean-lined furniture for commercial spaces. We don’t follow trends. We design based on what the project needs and what the material suggests. If you have a specific aesthetic in mind, we can work within it or help you find the right direction.

Can SENTIENT design furniture to match my existing interior?

Yes. SENTIENT frequently designs pieces to complement existing interiors. Share photos of your space, flooring, cabinetry, and other furniture, and our team will recommend wood species, finishes, and proportions that work together. For projects led by an interior designer or architect, we collaborate directly with your design team through our A&D trade program.

Does SENTIENT offer built-in furniture and millwork?

Yes. SENTIENT designs and fabricates custom architectural millwork including wall paneling, crown moldings, built-in cabinetry, bars, wine storage, media units, closets, banquettes, and elevator interiors. Our millwork team works from architectural drawings or develops blueprints from your measurements and design direction. Millwork projects are common in hotels, restaurants, lobbies, and high-end residences.

Can I see my furniture design before it’s built?

Yes. SENTIENT creates detailed 3D computer renderings for every custom project before production begins. These renderings show accurate proportions, material textures, and finish colors from multiple angles. You review and approve the design before any material is cut. For complex projects, we can provide multiple design options to compare. This approval process is a standard part of every SENTIENT project.

What custom base and leg options are available for tables?

SENTIENT fabricates custom table bases in-house in our metal shop. Options include steel trestle bases, pedestal bases, wishbone legs, hairpin legs, and sculptural one-of-a-kind forms. All metal bases are available in finishes like blackened steel, brushed brass, polished steel, and weathered patina. We also build solid wood bases for clients who prefer an all-wood design. Every base is engineered for the specific table it supports. See metal finish options.

Does SENTIENT collaborate with other designers or artists?

Yes. SENTIENT has a history of creative collaborations with designers, artists, and architects. Our collaborations program has produced pieces like the Sapience Chair and the Evolution Table, which have been exhibited at ICFF and in galleries. We welcome collaboration proposals and have worked with both established and emerging designers. These partnerships push our work into new creative territory.

Can SENTIENT replicate a discontinued or vintage furniture piece?

SENTIENT can create custom pieces inspired by vintage or discontinued designs. Bring us photos, dimensions, and details of the original, and our team will design a version built with premium materials and modern construction techniques. We don’t produce exact copies of other manufacturers’ designs, but we can capture the proportions, style, and character of a piece you love while making it genuinely ours.

What types of furniture can SENTIENT build?

SENTIENT builds dining tables, conference tables, desks, coffee tables, consoles, credenzas, beds, sofas, lounge chairs, dining chairs, stools, banquette seating, outdoor furniture, and architectural millwork. If it’s made of wood, metal, or upholstery, we can likely build it. Our workshop handles everything from a single live edge coffee table to a 200-room hotel furniture program. See our project range.
