What types of restaurant furniture does SENTIENT build?
SENTIENT builds a full range of custom restaurant furniture: dining tables (communal, standard, live edge, river table, and flow pedestal styles), dining chairs (solid wood, upholstered, and mixed-material), bar stools, lounge chairs, and banquette seating. We also build complete furniture programs that combine tables, benches, banquettes, and chairs into a cohesive design for the whole dining room. Every piece is built to commercial standards for durability and designed to match your restaurant’s aesthetic identity. See our restaurant furniture page.
How durable is SENTIENT restaurant furniture for daily commercial use?
SENTIENT builds restaurant furniture to the same standards as our hospitality and institutional work, meaning it is engineered for daily, heavy use. We use solid American hardwoods with commercial-grade finishes, including lacquer and varnish, that resist scratches, moisture, and cleaning chemicals. Upholstered pieces use high-double-rub-count fabrics with stain-resistant and fade-resistant treatments. We source hardwood slabs that are air-dried and kiln-dried before fabrication to ensure dimensional stability. Our restaurant clients include Michelin-starred dining rooms and high-volume venues operating nightly service.
What wood species work best for restaurant tables?
American black walnut is the most popular choice for restaurant tables due to its durability, rich grain, and ability to develop a beautiful patina with use. White oak is an excellent alternative with slightly higher hardness and a more neutral tone. Hard maple offers exceptional durability and a clean, contemporary look. Cherry provides warm reddish-brown tones that deepen beautifully over time. All species are sourced from Pennsylvania mills and kiln-dried before fabrication. The right choice depends on your restaurant’s design direction and the finish you select. Learn more about wood species.
What finish options are available for restaurant tables?
SENTIENT offers lacquer, oil-varnish blends, hardwax oil, and water-based finishes for restaurant tables. For high-traffic commercial environments, lacquer or oil-varnish finishes provide the strongest protection against moisture, heat, and daily cleaning. Hardwax oil offers a more natural appearance and is food-safe once cured, making it a strong choice for dining surfaces. We also offer anti-microbial and anti-fungal finish treatments on request for food service environments. Our team will recommend the right finish based on your expected traffic, cleaning protocols, and aesthetic preferences.
What communal table sizes does SENTIENT offer?
SENTIENT builds communal restaurant tables up to 172 inches long and 60 inches wide, though most projects fall in the 96 to 144 inch range. Custom dimensions are fully available to match your floor plan exactly. Communal tables can be built as a single slab live edge design, a bookmatched pair, or in a standard straight-edge configuration with multiple wood boards. Base options include steel trestle, wishbone, T-shape, and custom fabricated designs. Round tables are available from 24 to 60 inches in diameter.
Can SENTIENT match our restaurant’s existing design or brand aesthetic?
Yes. SENTIENT works from your design direction, whether that means matching existing materials and finishes, complementing a specific color palette, or building within an architect’s overall concept. We regularly collaborate with restaurant designers and interior architects who provide mood boards, drawings, and material specifications. Our 3D rendering process lets you see how pieces will look in your space before production begins. Finish samples are available so you can compare options against your existing interior elements before committing.
Does SENTIENT build restaurant chairs and bar stools?
Yes. SENTIENT builds custom dining chairs in solid wood, fully upholstered, and mixed-material configurations. Chair styles range from angular and architectural to curved and organic. Upholstery options include leather, velvet, linen, cotton, wool, and commercial-grade performance fabrics. We accept COM (Customer’s Own Material) for designers who prefer to source fabric independently. Bar stools are available at standard 24-inch and 30-inch seat heights with the same range of wood and upholstery options as dining chairs. Learn about our upholstery options.
Does SENTIENT build booth seating for restaurants?
Yes. Custom booth seating and banquette seating are among our most requested restaurant projects. SENTIENT builds both freestanding and built-in booth configurations in solid wood frames with upholstered seating. We handle on-site measurement and coordinate installation. Upholstery options include commercial-grade fabrics, leathers, vinyl, and outdoor-rated materials for exposed locations. Fire-retardant fabric options are available for compliance with local commercial building codes. See the Custom Banquettes FAQ for more detail.
Can SENTIENT supply a complete furniture package for a new restaurant?
Yes. SENTIENT handles complete restaurant furniture programs covering every surface: dining tables, chairs, bar stools, banquettes, booths, host stands, and any millwork elements. We coordinate the design across all pieces so they form a cohesive interior. For large projects, we provide phased production schedules aligned to your construction timeline and coordinate delivery and installation on-site. Past clients include Edition Hotels restaurants, Atera, Jams, Bread and Tulips, and Nobu. Contact us to discuss your project scope and timeline.
What is the lead time for restaurant furniture?
The typical lead time for SENTIENT restaurant furniture is 12 to 14 weeks from design approval to delivery. Complete furniture programs with multiple piece types may require additional time depending on scope and complexity. Custom banquette seating typically runs 10 to 12 weeks. If you have a restaurant opening date, share it at the start of your consultation and we will build a production schedule that meets your deadline. We recommend beginning the conversation at least four months before your target delivery date for larger programs.
