SENTIENT collaborated with Brooklyn-based Illustrator and artist Gordi Nasseri to transform the Sapience chair into a canvas for artistic expression, merging her unique style with our craftsmanship.

SENTIENT X GORDI NASSERI

SENTIENT is proud to collaborate with local artists whose vision and craftsmanship breathe new life into our designs. For this project, we partnered with Gordi Nasseri, an acclaimed Brooklyn-based illustrator, collage artist, and art teacher, to reimagine our Sapience chair. By offering this piece as a canvas, SENTIENT invited Gordi to imprint her unique artistic expression upon it, allowing her personal style to merge seamlessly with our dedication to high-quality craftsmanship. Through this collaboration, the Sapience chair becomes more than just a piece of furniture; it evolves into a vessel for storytelling and artistic exploration, embodying both our commitment to innovation and the timeless dialogue between form and creativity.

This collaborative piece of art has been exhibited at various venues, including ICFF, AAF, VOLTA Art Show, and SENTIENT Gallery, allowing audiences to experience the unique fusion of furniture design and fine art.

The Sapience Chair Reimagined

The Sapience chair, already a testament to SENTIENT’s focus on craftsmanship and thoughtful design, becomes a canvas for Gordi’s artistry. By inviting artists to impart their own creativity onto the chair, SENTIENT continues its commitment to honoring both the heritage of furniture-making and the possibilities of modern artistic exploration. Gordi Nasseri’s unique interpretation adds a narrative depth to the Sapience chair, blurring the line between fine art and fine furniture. This collaboration embodies SENTIENT’s belief that every piece has a story, every material a memory, and every artist a vision.

Artist Statement

“When presented with the Sapience chair, I was taken aback by its otherworldly elegance and was inspired by the symmetry and sleek contours. The surface planes of the chair reminded me of the panels in a comic book, something that, as an illustrator, I am all too familiar with. I decided to revisit some of my early sketches from my days in art school in search of that special something, and in searching, I found it—or rather, I found “them.” As though meant for this chair, these live model studies fit perfectly in the shallow niches of the chair’s sides, and have now been given a chance to live within its striking silhouette.”
