American Black Walnut

American black walnut wood is warm in tone and rich in color, it is a fine-grained hardwood that is dense and resilient in shock resistance. When polished, Walnut is very smooth in finish and often used in veneers. It is aesthetically sophisticated yet sustainable wood species. A popular wood amongst designers and artisans alike, and one of the most sought after materials for our solid wood dining table, walnut is destined to impress. Our Walnut slabs are all sourced by SENTIENT through local responsible and reputable suppliers, ensuring sustainability and responsible environmental practices. Oak

Oakwood has a light to medium soft brown tone with a slight olive cast that subtly highlights its straight grain. It is a very resilient and beautiful wood, often used for veneers, general woodworking of cabinetry and furniture, flooring, and boatbuilding. It is rated high in sustainability and sourced by SENTIENT, regionally.

Maple with Distressed Finish

Maple tends toward the nearly white or off white cream tones with a golden or reddish hue. Its grain is straight, though depicted sometimes as wavy, curly or even quilted in movement. Maple is considered a durable hard wood and used for veneers, flooring and general woodworking, though some are softer and often used for turning for bats or lumber. A distressed finish is achieved by multiple layers and steps of hand applied stains, both rubbed and gently brushed, accentuating the woods grain and inherent textures of worm holes, marks of time and the like. Spalted Maple

Maple is a hard durable wood with natural tones of creams, white and golden to reddish hues. It tends to have a straight grain, though sometimes wavy or curly in its movement. Maple often is used in veneers, flooring, woodworking and turnings such as flutes and bats. The term Spalted is directly related to a fungal discoloration of wood, resulting in dark contrasting lines and swathes of natural tones. Maple wood itself is a sustainable wood, sourced regionally by SENTIENT. Oak with Charcoal Finish

Oakwood has a light to medium soft brown tone with a slight olive cast that subtly highlights its straight grain. It is a very resilient and beautiful wood, often used for veneers, general woodworking of cabinetry and furniture, flooring, and boatbuilding. It is rated high in sustainability and sourced by SENTIENT, regionally. A charcoal tone finish is accomplished by layers of hand-applied stain that accentuates the grain of the wood, thereby showing various levels of the same hue. Claro Walnut

Claro Walnut has a range of natural tones from light pale brown to dark chocolate brown streaked with darker browns. The grain of Claro Walnut is is usually straight but sometimes irregular. It is a hardwood that is dense and resilient, much like black walnut. Claro Walnut is often used as veneers, woodworking such as cabinetry, musical instruments, and turned items such as bowls. It is listed as a vulnerable wood species as its population has been reduced. Claro walnut is sourced by SENTIENT through reputable and responsible dealers.

 

Oak with Bleached Finish

Oakwood has a light to medium soft brown tone with a slight olive cast that subtly highlights its straight grain. Bleached Oak has had its natural color reduced by using a bleach solution, leaving its natural levels of tones and grain, creating a light and subtle effect. Oak is a very resilient and beautiful wood, often used for veneers, general woodworking of cabinetry and furniture, flooring, and boatbuilding. It is rated high in sustainability and sourced by SENTIENT regionally through reputable and responsible dealers.

Maple & Ambrosia Maple

Ambrosia Maple though like the lighter grained Maple itself, has a distinct occasional darkened pattern. Similar to Spalted Maple in that it refers to a natural fungal, Spalted Maple has a pattern and cause associated with the boring paths of ambrosia beetles that bring with it the fungal. Reclaimed Oak

Oak wood has a light to medium soft brown tone with a slight olive cast that subtly highlights its straight grain. Reclaimed Oak specifically refers to it being salvaged from flooring, roofs, and walls that can have an age of up to 200 years. This aging often appears as wormholes and nail holes, weathering, and walking patterns. Reclaimed Oak is a sustainable option and is sourced through reputable and responsible dealers by SENTIENT.

Teak

Teak wood has a medium brown to golden hue that darkens with age. Its straight grain can occasionally be wavy or interlocked. Teak wood is known to be very durable and rot resistant. Cherry wood has a light brown pinkish tone when first cut then darkens with light and time and has swaths of pale yellow hues and straight to slightly wavy grain. Parota (Guanacaste)

Parota ( Guanacaste) wood has medium to light brown sometimes reddish hues with streaks of darker brown often running through. Its grain movement is slightly interlocked with a moderated natural luster. This wood is considered a durable wood species often used for table top slabs, furniture, boatbuilding, turnings and millwork. Parota ( Guanacaste) is a sustainable wood species sourced through reputable and responsible dealers by SENTIENT.
