SENTIENT is a Brooklyn-based design studio, furniture gallery, and workshop. We design and build custom furniture for hotels and restaurants, corporate and commercial spaces, and high-end residential projects, all under one roof at our 25,000 square foot studio and workshop in Greenpoint.

Every piece is conceived, designed, and handcrafted in Brooklyn. Whether it’s a solid wood dining table, a fully upholstered sofa in premium leather, or a conference table with an engineered metal base, we handle woodworking, metal fabrication, upholstery, and finishing in-house. Our clients include Cartier, Porsche, Edition Hotel, and British Airways, alongside architects, designers, and private collectors across the country.

We involve you at every step, from initial sketches and 3D renderings through material selection and production updates, so the finished piece genuinely reflects your vision.

Solid Wood Furniture

We work with solid American hardwoods. Each slab is selected for its grain character, structural integrity, and how it will age over time. The wood’s natural beauty defines the piece, and we design to reveal it rather than impose on it.

Our live edge furniture preserves the natural contour of the tree, creating pieces where no two are alike. Whether it’s a walnut dining table for a private residence or an oak communal table for a restaurant, every surface is hand-finished to protect the wood while letting it breathe and develop deeper character with use.

Hardwood Species and Finish Options

We source American hardwoods from family-owned mills in Pennsylvania. Our primary species include black walnut, white oak, hard maple, cherry, and ash, each chosen for durability, grain character, and how it performs in its intended application. We also work with teak and ipe for outdoor projects.

Beyond raw species, we offer finish treatments including ebonized oak, bleached oak, spalted maple, and distressed textures. Every piece is hand-finished with hardwax oil or a protective treatment suited to its environment, whether that’s a high-traffic hotel lobby or a private dining room.
